Why We Exist
Our goal is to empower the rising generation to critically analyze the culture they live in through the lens of a Christian worldview. We want students to take ownership of their faith because they will encounter challenging questions and life experiences beyond high school. Discipleship is fundamental, which is why we intentionally equip parents with resources to assist in the process of implementing a legacy of lifelong faith. We also support faith leaders in churches and schools by providing content and speakers who effectively address life’s toughest topics.
What We Do
If C.S. Lewis and MTV made a baby, the result would be Axis. Why? Because we take the most compelling ideas (think Lewis, Chesterton, Keller, Luther, and Augustine) and translate those ideas into visual form without watering down the original meaning. We then deliver these ideas to a post-literate generation using the media they are most engaged with on a regular basis (think Snapchat, Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube). Axis is the intersection of ideas, media, and generations.
WHAT AXIS DO YOU REVOLVE AROUND?
Axis exists because of “The 3.” What is “The 3”? Well, that depends on who you ask. For David Eaton, the CEO and Cofounder of Axis, “The 3” are his high school friends Chris, Andrew, and Josh. During their high-school years, David went on several mission trips to Mexico with these 3 guys, and they all stood on the dusty street corner proclaiming the Gospel through an interpreter. After high school, they all went to college. Four or five years after graduating high school, all three of David’s friends were either atheist or agnostic. They had walked away from the God they proclaimed to the pedestrians of Mexico.
But if you ask Jeremiah Callihan, President and Cofounder of Axis, who “The 3” are, he would say they are his sons Nehemiah, Elijah, and Jonathan. You see, Jeremiah is a good father, but he wants to be even better. He wants to know how to best raise his sons to know God, love Him, and pursue Him with everything they are. The bottom line is: Jeremiah wants to do the best he can to keep his 3 from becoming like David’s 3.
So Jeremiah and David started Axis to figure out why students were “leaving the faith” in college and to do something to stop it. Through the help of a wise mentor, David and Jeremiah figured out that students don’t actually lose their faith in college. Rather, college simply tests the quality of the faith they already have; for many, their “faith” never stood a chance.
Axis seeks to enhance the quality of students’ faith so that when they face the tests of college, questions, doubts, and evil, they will stand on a strong foundation. Through 25+ hours of presentations that use examples from today’s pop culture, Axis seeks to challenge students to choose to live out the gospel despite what culture says. But in order to see lasting change in students’ lives, parents need to be involved in the process of discipleship. Thus Axis evolved into a creative cultural agency that serves to act as a bridge between students and parents because meaningful conversations occur once genuine relationships are formed. Axis’ mission is to draw students and parents closer to God and each other.
We want you to join us in starting more conversations by bridging the gap between students and parents as a culture translator! As an Apprentice, you will travel all over North America in teams, speaking to different audiences about some of the biggest theological and philosophical ideas intertwined with pop-culture. When you are not on the road, your role consists of collaborating behind the scenes in the areas of marketing, content development, sales, or events. This Apprenticeship is a unique opportunity to explore the country and promote personal and professional growth!
